Lashana was first recorded on U.S. birth certificates in 1965, a time when distinctive creative names were flourishing in African American communities. Its peak came in 1978, when it reached its highest annual usage, and since then its occurrence has remained low and stable through 2025. The name belongs to a broader tradition of La- prefixed coinages, such as LaToya and LaShawn, which were especially fashionable in the 1970s.
